The Edwards 191-7Z-06K reed switch is a non-contact magnetic interlock and position sensor in the 191 Series GuardSwitch family. First, this is an industrial machine-guarding product — not a fire alarm device. Specifically, the 191 is purpose-built for severe washdown and chemical-exposure environments such as food processing, pharmaceutical packaging, and clean-in-place process lines. Therefore, it interfaces with PLCs, safety relays, and machine-control circuits rather than fire alarm panels.

What the Edwards 191-7Z-06K reed switch does

This switch senses the presence of a matching magnet actuator without physical contact. As a result, there are no mechanical parts to wear out. In addition, the seamless 304 stainless steel housing resists corrosion from cleaning agents, sanitizers, and food acids. Then the normally open reed contact closes when the “Z” actuator magnet comes within sensing range.

What this switch is NOT

However, the 191-7Z-06K is not a fire alarm device, a strobe, or a door-holder reed. Therefore, it does not carry UL 268, UL 464, UL 1971, or NFPA 72 listings. Furthermore, it is not intended for life-safety door coordination or smoke-control applications.
