The Edwards 590 transformer is a Class 2 signaling transformer. It steps 120 VAC primary down to 10 VAC secondary at 5 VA. The unit is a compact single-phase doorbell-and-chime transformer with built-in thermal overload protection.

This transformer powers low-voltage signaling circuits. As a result, it is widely used for doorbells, chimes, intercoms, and low-voltage relay circuits. The unit mounts through a standard 1/2-inch electrical-box knockout. Alternatively, it surface-mounts using the provided foot brackets.

Important: This Is a Class 2 Signaling Transformer, Not a Fire-Alarm Power Supply

The Edwards 590 carries UL Class 2 and CSA listings. However, it is not UL 864 listed for fire-alarm control or notification power. Therefore, do not use it as a primary or auxiliary power supply on a fire-alarm system. As a result, the 590 is best left to doorbell, chime, and general low-voltage signaling work.
