The Edwards 6830-3 is a portable firefighter telephone handset in black. It plugs into a 6833-4 portable handset receptacle on the fire alarm telephone riser. The handset is UL, MEA, and CSFM Listed for fire alarm voice communication.
This handset gives a roving firefighter direct voice communication back to the fire command center. As a result, building staff and emergency responders can coordinate during an event. The 60-inch (5-foot) coiled cord stretches without disconnecting from the wall jack.

How the Portable Handset System Works
First, the 6833-4 wall plate is wired to the fire alarm telephone riser. Then the 6830-3 handset plugs into the 6833-4 jack. As a result, lifting the handset signals the control panel. Then the operator answers from the fire command center to complete the call.
Storage and Sibling Parts
Multiple portable handsets typically share one TCS-6 storage cabinet, which holds up to six handsets. In addition, the red equivalent of the 6830-3 is the 6700-0061. Therefore, the choice between black and red handsets is a color-code convention only — both are functionally identical.
Three-State vs Four-State Operation
The 6830-3 supports both three-state and four-state telephone riser wiring. However, three-state operation does not comply with UL 864 Ninth Edition. As a result, new installations should use four-state wiring on the riser side.
