Edwards (757-1A-S70) Speaker 70v; cone type; red

The Edwards 757-1A-S70 is a 70-volt cone-type fire-alarm speaker in red, part of the Integrity 757 Series. Specifically, it is a speaker-only model — no strobe. As a result, you use it where you need emergency voice and tone audio without a visible-alarm appliance.

First, the 757-1A-S70 carries a 4-inch mylar cone with sealed-back construction. Then a built-in DC blocking capacitor allows the host panel to electrically supervise the audio distribution circuit. Therefore, the speaker is correctly supervised on standard fire-alarm 70 V audio risers.

Selectable Wattage Taps

Furthermore, the 757-1A-S70 is field-selectable for ¼, ½, 1, or 2 watt operation. As a result, the installer can balance output against branch loading without changing devices. In addition, the maximum 2 W tap produces 90 dBA at 10 feet in a reverberation room (UL 1480 method).

Specifically, the dBA output per tap is:

• ¼ W — 81 dBA
• ½ W — 84 dBA
• 1 W — 87 dBA
• 2 W — 90 dBA (UL Listed)

Frequency Response and Speaker Driver

Also, the speaker covers a frequency response of 250 to 13,000 Hz. Therefore, it reproduces voice messages and alert tones with the bandwidth a typical commercial life-safety system needs. In addition, the cone is rated at 8 watts mechanical and uses an 8-ohm voice coil.

Mounting

Specifically, the 757-1A-S70 flush-mounts to a North-American 4-inch square electrical box with a 1½-inch extension ring. Then the universal mounting plate holds the speaker with a single screw. Therefore, the device can be wired and left hanging for inspection before final attachment.

Furthermore, for surface or weatherproof mounting Edwards publishes color-matched boxes:

What This Part Is Not

However, the 757-1A-S70 is NOT a speaker-strobe. The strobe-equipped Integrity cone models in the same family carry “-SS25” or “-SS70” suffixes (e.g., 757-7A-SS70 = 15/75 cd speaker-strobe). Therefore, if your design requires a visible-notification appliance, order the matching -SS variant instead.

Also, the 757-1A-S70 is NOT the re-entrant compression-driver speaker. The re-entrant 70 V speaker-only model is the 757-1A-R70. Therefore, confirm whether your specification calls for the cone or the re-entrant before ordering.
