The DSC BV-300DP is a digital passive-infrared (PIR) motion detector from the DSC Bravo series. It is an intrusion-detection device. As a result, it wires into a security / burglar alarm panel — not a fire alarm panel.
The BV-300DP uses digital signal processing on the PIR sensor output. In addition, the digital algorithm helps reject many common nuisance triggers compared to analog PIRs.
What the BV-300DP Detects
Pyroelectric sensors inside the unit watch for moving heat sources. Then the digital signal processor filters the raw infrared signal. Specifically, it discriminates between human-body motion and slower thermal changes like sunlight or HVAC drafts.
However, the BV-300DP is an indoor device only. Therefore, exterior or wet-location use requires a different DSC outdoor-rated PIR.
