Gentex (GSB-W) Surface back box for ge series, white faceplate

The Gentex GSB-W is a surface back box for Gentex Commander2 (GE) and Commander3 (GE3) Series horns, strobes, and horn/strobes. It comes in off-white to match white-faceplate notification appliances. As a result, the GSB-W provides a clean surface-mount option where flush installation is not practical. Furthermore, it carries an ANSI/UL listing for indoor use.

Gentex GSB-W Specifications

The GSB-W is constructed of durable plastic. In addition, it includes 1/2″ conduit knockouts with metal washer reinforcement. Also, the box features Wiremold knockouts for 500 and 700 Series surface raceway. Furthermore, the design uses hidden screw heads for a clean finished appearance.

Per the Gentex GSB datasheet, the unit dimensions are 5.57″ H × 4.55″ W × 1.47″ D (14.15 × 11.56 × 3.73 cm). Therefore, the box fits flush against most flat wall surfaces with minimum protrusion.

Installation Notes for Gentex GSB-W

First, the GSB-W is compatible only with Gentex Commander2 (GE) and Commander3 (GE3) Series notification appliances. Therefore, do not use it with Commander5 (GHS) or other Gentex series — they use different mounting hardware. Then, the 1/2″ conduit knockouts accept standard EMT and flex fittings. Also, the Wiremold knockouts let installers transition from 500 or 700 Series surface raceway directly into the back box. In addition, the off-white finish is intended to pair with white-faceplate notification devices. However, the GSB-W is for indoor use only — it is not listed for outdoor or wet locations. Furthermore, the back box does not include the notification device itself — purchase the horn, strobe, or horn/strobe separately.
