The Notifier NAM-232W is a Network Adapter Module for AFP-200, AFP-300, and AFP-400 fire alarm control panels. Specifically, it connects those panels to NOTI•FIRE•NET (NFN) over twisted-pair wire. Furthermore, it interfaces through the panel’s EIA-232 (RS-232) serial port. As a result, legacy AFP series panels can join a modern NFN network.
This module is the wire-medium sibling of the NAM-232F (fiber). In addition, the NAM-232W is the right choice when the network medium between nodes is twisted-pair copper. Furthermore, both modules require NFN Release 2.5 or higher.
How the Notifier NAM-232W operates on NFN
First, the NAM-232W transmits at 312.5 Kbaud on the NFN bus. Then, data is regenerated at each node, which boosts signal integrity hop by hop. Furthermore, the module provides electrical isolation between nodes, so a fault at one panel does not propagate across the network.
DIP switches select single-port or dual-port monitoring. Also, the same DIP block selects the network drill option and per-channel earth fault detection. Diagnostic LEDs surface the bus state for installers during commissioning.
