The Potter Electric Signal OSYSU-2 is an outside screw and yoke (OS&Y) valve supervisory switch. It monitors the open position of an OS&Y gate valve on a fire sprinkler riser. Specifically, the OSYSU-2 model carries two sets of SPDT (Form C) contacts for redundant or split signaling to the fire alarm control panel.
First, the switch mounts onto the valve yoke with an adjustable trip rod. Then, if anyone attempts to close the valve, the rod actuates the internal switch as the stem moves. As a result, the FACP receives a supervisory signal before the valve has fully shut. Therefore, the sprinkler system never goes out of service unnoticed.
Where the Potter Electric Signal OSYSU-2 fits
The OSYSU body mounts on most OS&Y valves from 2″ to 12″ (50 mm to 300 mm). In addition, the cover uses two tamper-resistant screws that require a special tool to remove. Potter supplies the tool with each switch. Furthermore, the NEMA 4X rating allows indoor or outdoor installation, including unheated valve rooms.

Common applications
Fire sprinkler contractors install the OSYSU-2 wherever NFPA 13 or 25 requires supervision of a manually operated control valve. For example, it suits sprinkler-system main control valves, sectional valves, and standpipe valves. Also, the second SPDT set lets installers feed both the building FACP and a separate central-station path from one device.
