The Siemens TSM-1 is a test switch module for intelligent duct detectors on the MXL system. It uses a key-activated momentary switch. First, a technician inserts the key and turns it. As a result, the associated duct detector goes into alarm for testing.
How the Siemens TSM-1 works
The TSM-1 works with a TRI interface module set to TEST usage. When the key closes the switch, the TRI signals the MXL panel. Then the panel lowers the detector alarm threshold. Therefore, the detector alarms so you can verify its response. A red LED lights to confirm the alarm.
Installation
The module mounts on a switch plate in a single-gang box. Also, a box at least 1.5 inches deep is recommended. Use field wire from 18 AWG minimum to 14 AWG maximum. In addition, keep power-limited wiring separated per NFPA 70.
Programming and testing note
Technicians program the associated TRI with the FPI-32 Programmer/Tester. However, the TSM-1 does not perform every smoke detector test required by NFPA 72. Therefore, always follow the detector instructions for complete test procedures.
