The STI-8100 smoke detector protector is a flush-mount polycarbonate cover. First, it shields smoke detectors from vandalism, ball impact, and casual tampering. In addition, the clear molded body keeps the detector LED visible. Therefore, status indication remains obvious from the floor.
STI-8100 construction
First, the cover is molded from tough, UV-stabilized clear polycarbonate. Specifically, the unit measures 8.25 in. H x 8.25 in. W x 3.75 in. D. Also, the flush-mount design seats the protector against the ceiling or wall. As a result, no extension box is needed.
Servicing the detector
First, the cover removes simply for routine cleaning, sensitivity testing, or replacement. Then, it snaps back into place after service. In addition, optional tamper-resistant hardware is available. Therefore, the protector resists removal in high-abuse environments. Furthermore, the assembly does not alter the airflow path required for smoke entry.
STI backs the polycarbonate against breakage for three years in normal use. UL listed for use with specific listed smoke detectors. For the white version, see the STI-8100-W.
