The Edwards 278B-2320 is a double-action, presignal manual pull station with double-pole open contacts, key reset, and screw terminals. First, the user lifts the cover and then breaks the glass rod to trip the alarm. Then, a 276-K1 key is required to reset the latched contacts. As a result, the double-action sequence defends against unintentional activation, and the key reset restricts station restoration to authorized personnel.
Specifically, the “2” in the “2320” suffix flags the presignal feature. Therefore, the station provides a separate set of contacts for a presignal (investigation-mode) circuit alongside the main alarm contacts. In addition, the “3” identifies the double-pole configuration; the “20” identifies the open-circuit, key-reset combination.
Edwards 278B-2320 application
Use the 278B-2320 where the AHJ requires both a presignal stage and a double-action pull, typically in hospitals, schools, and institutional buildings with staff-attended alarm response. Furthermore, double-pole switching suits panels that monitor both an alarm and a presignal circuit from one initiation point. Also, the Lexan housing keeps weight down while resisting tamper.

The 278B-2320 is noncoded, so the station closes contacts without sending a coded signal. However, the host panel drives the audible and visible notification appliances on alarm. As a result, the 278B-2320 integrates cleanly with any conventional FACP that supports presignal-mode initiation through a normally-open dry contact pair.
