The Edwards 3X-ETH3 is an Ethernet adapter card for the EST3X fire alarm control panel. First, it delivers the same networking functions as the earlier 3X-ETH2. In addition, it adds email and email-to-SMS text messaging for event notification. As a result, key personnel receive alerts directly when system events occur.
Edwards 3X-ETH3 Functions and Use Cases
The card connects an SFS1-CPU main board to an Ethernet network. Therefore, technicians can program the panel and pull diagnostics remotely. Also, the email-to-SMS feature reaches mobile devices through standard carrier gateways. Furthermore, this is useful where dedicated dial-out reporting is impractical.
Typical messages include alarm, supervisory, and trouble notifications. In addition, the card supports the same remote programming workflow used by the predecessor 3X-ETH2. However, dedicated central-station communication still requires a separate listed transmitter such as the 3-MODCOM.
System Context
The 3X-ETH3 installs in any EST3X panel that accepts an option card. Specifically, it occupies one option-card slot on the rail assembly. Also, it works alongside the 3X-NET or 3X-FIB8 network cards used for peer-to-peer panel communication. Furthermore, EST3X system listings (UL 864) cover the panel once the card is installed and configured.
Verify firmware compatibility with the host EST3X panel before swapping cards. As a result, technicians avoid version mismatches that can mask configuration changes.
