The Ditek DTK-KG2 Kool Guard 2 is an intelligent voltage monitor with integrated surge protection for 120/240 VAC or 120/208 VAC split-phase circuits up to 40 A. Specifically, it protects HVAC condensers, heat pumps, and similar single-phase 240 V equipment from both over/undervoltage events and lightning-induced surges.
First, the DTK-KG2 monitors line voltage continuously. As a result, when voltage falls below 104 VAC (L-G) or rises above 130 VAC (L-G), it disconnects the load. In addition, the unit waits a 3-minute short-cycle delay before reconnecting. Therefore, compressor short-cycling damage is prevented after a brownout or transient.
Also, the DTK-KG2 includes a 50,000 A surge current rating in the same enclosure. Furthermore, the auto-calibration function adjusts thresholds to the local service. As a result, no field DIP-switch setup is required.

Installation Note
The DTK-KG2 is series-wired at the equipment disconnect. Specifically, line conductors land on the input lugs and load conductors on the output lugs. As a result, all current to the equipment passes through the relay contacts. Therefore, the unit must be sized for the equipment’s MCA. Also, the UL Type 4X enclosure is rated for outdoor mounting at the condenser disconnect.
