The Potter Electric Signal EVD-2C is the Safe/Vault Pak version of the EVD-2 vibration detector system. First, it ships with the EVD-M microprocessor controller and an EVD-R remote pickup. In addition, the EVD-2C includes the HSC-1 High Security Safe Contact. As a result, installers get a complete UL and ULC listed safe protection kit in one box.

Potter Electric Signal EVD-2C kit contents

This security kit targets safes, vaults, ATMs, and bank installations. Specifically, the HSC-1 high security safe contact monitors the safe door. Meanwhile, the EVD-M controller analyzes vibration signals from the EVD-R pickup. Therefore, integrators get both door supervision and full-body vibration coverage with a single SKU.

Furthermore, the EVD-M controller supports up to fifteen EVD-R remote pickups. Also, additional remotes extend coverage to larger safes and vault rooms. The controller may also run stand-alone with a single sensor.

Detection methods

The EVD-M detects short-duration, large-amplitude attacks. For example, it identifies hammering, chiseling, and explosive forced entry. However, it also catches long-duration, low-amplitude attacks. Specifically, it senses torches, thermic lances, drills, grinders, and cutting discs. Once a large-amplitude alarm appears, the EVD-M signals an immediate alarm.

Installation notes

First, install the EVD-2C per UL standard 681. Then, wire all detectors and the HSC-1 safe contact using high-security cable. Furthermore, the host control unit must provide at least four hours of standby power for mercantile use. For bank vaults, the standby requirement increases to 72 hours.

Also, the EVD-2C may share auxiliary power with a burglar panel. However, if the burglar panel has ground-fault detection, power the EVD from a separate UL-listed 12 VDC supply. Alternatively, isolate the safe from ground.
