Mircom MIX-4010-DUCT Intelligent Photoelectric Duct Smoke Detector

The Mircom MIX-4010-DUCT is an addressable photoelectric duct smoke detector for HVAC air-distribution systems. First, it ships with the MIX-4010-D intelligent sensor head pre-installed. Then it reports air obscuration to the FACU over the MGC MP protocol. As a result, HVAC systems shut down before smoke spreads through the building.

Air velocity rating is 300 to 4,000 ft/min. Therefore the detector fits a wide range of duct designs. In addition, the venturi-effect sampling tube reliably detects smoke at the low end of that range. The one-pipe sampling design means installers only cut one hole in the duct.

Mircom MIX-4010-DUCT installation range

The MIX-4010-DUCT installs on ducts from 6 inches to 9 feet wide. Specifically, three sampling tubes are available. The DUCT-ST1 fits ducts up to 1 ft wide. The DUCT-ST2 covers 1 ft to 2 ft. Finally, the DUCT-ST5 handles 2 ft to 5 ft, and the DUCT-EXTEND adds another 3.5 ft.

For ducts over 2 ft, the sampling tube spans the full duct width. Then a rubber gasket DUCT-RG seals the opposite-side mounting hole. Also, the optional DUCT-MB mounting bracket adapts to circular or insulated rectangular ducts.

Electrical and environmental specs

Normal operating voltage is 15 to 30 VDC (30 VDC maximum). Standby current is 160 µA with the LED flashing. Alarm current is 3.2 mA with the LED on. Furthermore, the device wires up with 24 to 12 AWG cable on all terminals.

Operating temperature range is 32 °F to 100 °F (0 °C to 37.8 °C). However, do not mount the detector where condensation can form — attics and outdoor locations are out of scope. Dimensions are 11 × 6.5 × 3.3 in (279 × 165 × 83 mm), and weight is 1.85 lb (0.84 kg).

Addressing and panel compatibility

The detector is addressed via the MIX-4090 hand-held programmer. Addresses range from 1 to 240. In addition, the MIX-4010-DUCT is compatible with Mircom 4000N and 400 Series FACUs. The unit is listed to UL and ULC.
