The Potter Electric Signal PAD300 MAGNET is a handheld test magnet for PAD300-series addressable fire detectors. First, the tech holds the magnet over the detector’s magnetic test area. Then, the detector enters an alarm condition via its built-in magnetic test switch. As a result, the panel registers an alarm without any actual smoke or heat at the head.

The PAD300 MAGNET activates the integrated magnetic test switch on PAD300 series detectors. Specifically, the test verifies the detector electronics and SLC connections. In addition, an LED on the host detector flashes rapidly to confirm the alarm condition. Therefore, a single tech can test addressable detectors from the floor.
The magnet test should NOT replace the aerosol smoke test. Furthermore, NFPA 72 requires periodic aerosol testing as part of regular detector maintenance. As a result, the PAD300 MAGNET supports quick verification but does not replace full functional testing.
Compatible detectors
The magnet works with any PAD300 series detector that has a magnetic test switch. Specifically, this includes PAD300-PD (photoelectric), PAD300-PHD (photo/heat), PAD300-HD (heat), PAD300-CD (CO), PAD300-PCD (photo/CO), and PAD300-DD (duct). Therefore, one accessory covers the full PAD300 detector lineup.
Before testing
Notify the appropriate fire authority before testing the detector. In addition, place the fire alarm control panel in walk-test mode first. Specifically, walk-test mode prevents notification appliances and remote signals from activating during the test. Refer to the panel installation manual for walk-test setup details.
