The Hochiki DSC-EA is a conventional rate-of-rise heat detector. It triggers an alarm when air temperature climbs faster than the unit can vent.
First, the DSC-EA uses a sealed air chamber, a vent, and a flexible metal diaphragm. Then a rapid temperature rise expands the trapped air faster than the vent can equalize. As a result, the diaphragm closes a set of precious-metal contacts and sends the alarm signal.

The DSC-EA consumes no current in standby. Therefore an unlimited number of detectors can share the same conventional initiating circuit. In addition, the slim profile keeps the detector visually unobtrusive on ceilings.

Where to Install (and Where Not To)
Furthermore, the DSC-EA suits dusty or particulate-heavy spaces where smoke detection is impractical. However, do not mount it in direct line with hot-air heaters. Also avoid installation above stoves, ovens, or other heat-generating equipment.
