The Eaton ELFHNR is a Wheelock Eluxa low-frequency sounder for fire alarm service. It is a wall-mount appliance with a red housing, FIRE lettering, and 24 VDC operation. The “LF” in the family name means low-frequency.
First, the unit produces a 520 Hz tone that meets NFPA 72 low-frequency requirements for sleeping rooms. Then, the installer selects one of three patterns: Continuous, Code 3 (T3 fire), or Code 3 / Code 4 sync control (CO via the panel). As a result, the same appliance covers fire and carbon monoxide signaling in sleeping spaces.
Eaton ELFHNR Applications
Low-frequency sounders are required by NFPA 72 in sleeping areas built or significantly remodeled after the 2010 code adoption. For example, hotels, dormitories, multifamily housing, and group homes typically spec the ELFH series. However, the ELFHNR is sounder-only — pair it with a strobe-equipped sibling (ELFHSR) when visual notification is also required.

The ELFHNR ships with a hinged mounting plate. Specifically, it accepts ELSPKBB wall backboxes, single-gang backboxes, or 4-inch square boxes. In addition, the appliance is listed under UL 464 (audible signaling), CAN/ULC-S525, CSFM, RoHS, and FCC Part 15.
Wall dimensions: 6.35 in H x 4.56 in W x 1.54 in D. Furthermore, the housing is UV-stabilized engineered plastic that exceeds UL 94V-0 flammability rating.
