Potter Electric Signal (PAD300-RB) Relay base

The Potter Electric Signal PAD300-RB is a 6-inch addressable relay base. It is part of the Potter PAD300 D-TECT addressable smoke detector line. Specifically, the PAD300-RB combines a detector base with an integral Form C relay module.

Installers use the PAD300-RB to drive ancillary equipment from a single addressable smoke detector. For example, the relay can shut down an HVAC unit, release a door holder, or signal a low-voltage notification circuit. As a result, one PAD300 photoelectric head can provide both detection and local control through the same base.

How the Potter Electric Signal PAD300-RB is wired

First, the base mounts to a standard electrical box. Then the PAD300 photoelectric detector head locks into the base. Furthermore, the PAD300-RB physically separates the high-voltage relay contacts from the power-limited SLC connections. As a result, the installation complies with NEC separation requirements for high-voltage and low-voltage wiring in the same enclosure.

Common applications

Integrators install the PAD300-RB in lobbies, elevator vestibules, and corridors where the addressable smoke detector also needs to trigger an action. Specifically, common uses include HVAC fan shutdown, door-hold release, and elevator recall handshake to a separate controller. Also, because the base does not consume its own SLC address, the design preserves loop addresses for additional initiating devices.
