The Protectowire CTM-530 is an interface module for Protectowire CTI (Confirmed Temperature Initiation) linear heat detectors. Specifically, the module connects each linear heat detector zone to the fire alarm control panel through a supervised circuit. Furthermore, the CTM-530 includes a graphical LCD display that shows zone status and alarm location.
How the Protectowire CTM-530 reduces false alarms
The CTI linear heat detector consists of a twisted pair of dissimilar spring conductors. Then a heat-sensitive polymer insulation surrounds the conductors. When the rated alarm temperature is reached, the polymer softens. As a result, the conductors short and form a thermocouple junction. Furthermore, the CTM-530 reads the thermal signature at the junction. Therefore, the module can distinguish a real thermal alarm from a simple mechanical short caused by physical damage. This is the core “Confirmed Temperature Initiation” feature.
Configurations and zone capacity
The CTM-530 supports both Class A and Class B detector wiring. In addition, the module supervises up to 4,000 feet (1,220 m) of CTI linear heat detector per zone. Also, an optional intrinsic safety barrier is available for hazardous-location applications. Therefore, the module fits both standard commercial deployments and Division 1 / Division 2 installations.
Typical applications
Installers deploy the CTM-530 with CTI cable in cable trays, conveyor systems, transformer rooms, and warehouse rack storage. Furthermore, the module suits sites where mechanical damage would otherwise trigger nuisance alarms.
