The Protectowire TR-24-S is a 304 stainless steel turnbuckle for Protectowire messenger wire installations. Specifically, it attaches one end of a messenger-wire run to a supporting structure. Furthermore, it tensions the carrier wire after the detector is in place.
Why use the Protectowire TR-24-S over the standard TR-24
The standard TR-24 uses steel construction with an aluminum casing. Then the TR-24-S replaces every component with 304 stainless steel. As a result, the TR-24-S resists corrosion in outdoor, marine, chemical, and washdown environments.
Specifically, the TR-24-S is the right choice for cold storage, food processing, petrochemical, and exterior installations. Also, the same install geometry applies — 1/4-20 thread, 9/16″ (14.3 mm) eye and hook ID.
Function in a messenger wire run
Protectowire ships on messenger wire with the “-M” suffix. Then the messenger wire spans open bays and outdoor runs without continuous mounting surfaces. However, the wire must be tensioned at each end to avoid sag. The TR-24-S sits between the messenger wire and the building structure. Furthermore, the threaded eye/hook lets installers take up slack progressively.
Temperature rating
The TR-24-S carries a temperature rating of −70°F to 300°F (−57°C to 149°C). As a result, it serves both freezer applications and elevated-ambient industrial spaces.
Install rules
Maximum detector run length between turnbuckles should not exceed 250 ft (76 m). In addition, intermediate fasteners must support the messenger wire every 15–50 ft. Outdoor installations need closer fastener spacing for snow, ice, and wind loads.
