The Potter Electric Signal VSG-4 is a low-flow vane-type waterflow alarm switch for 4-inch pipe. First, the VSG-4 installs in 4-inch (114.3 mm OD) stainless steel or brass pipe. Then, the flexible vane senses water movement downstream of the device. As a result, the VSG-4 actuates its alarm relay when waterflow reaches 3 GPM (11.4 LPM) or more.
Potter Electric Signal VSG-4 application
The VSG family targets wet pipe water mist systems. Specifically, the VSG is designed where a low flow threshold for alarm is required. In addition, the VSG-4 may also serve as a sectional waterflow detector on large systems. Therefore, designers use it where conventional vane switches would not actuate reliably at the low-flow setpoint.
Retard and contacts
The VSG-4 includes a field-adjustable electronic time-delay retard. Specifically, the retard is selectable in 15-second increments from 0 to 90 seconds via DIP switch. As a result, the installer tunes around system pressure surges and trapped air. Furthermore, two DPDT (Form C) output contacts handle alarm and supervisory wiring to the fire alarm control panel.
Construction
The cover is weather, UV, and flame-resistant high-impact composite plastic. In addition, the base is die-cast aluminum. Also, the cover is held by two tamper-resistant screws requiring a special key. Furthermore, the enclosure is NEMA 4 / IP54 rated for indoor or outdoor use with the appropriate conduit fitting.
