The Protectowire PHSC-190-XCR-M is a standard digital linear heat detector on messenger wire. It carries a fixed alarm temperature of 190°F (88°C). Furthermore, the “-M” suffix means it ships wound onto a stainless steel support wire.

Messenger wire simplifies installs where mounting is difficult. Specifically, high-tensile stainless steel wire wraps the detector about once per foot. As a result, the cable can span large open areas without support structures.

Type XCR on Messenger Wire

The base detector uses the high-performance XCR fluoropolymer jacket. Specifically, it resists chemicals, abrasion, and weather. In addition, the messenger wire carries the detector between tensioned end points. Turnbuckles and eyebolts then anchor each run.

Keep each span between turnbuckles to 250 ft (76 m) or less. Also, support the wire with fasteners every 15 to 50 ft. However, outdoor runs need closer fastener spacing for snow, ice, and wind.
