The Potter Electric Signal VSA-1K is the entry-level vault sound alarm kit from Potter. First, the kit pairs one VSA-1 controller/microphone with one RTA remote test annunciator. Then, the system is powered by a UL-listed burglar control unit and wired to its alarm initiating circuit. As a result, the VSA-1K provides UL-listed primary acoustic protection for bank and mercantile vaults.
Potter Electric Signal VSA-1K function
The VSA-1 combines the main controller and one microphone in a single enclosure. Specifically, a microprocessor-driven DC differential balance circuit watches the microphone impedance. Therefore, the system alarms via SPDT relay when the microphone-circuit impedance increases or decreases beyond the balance threshold. In addition, sensitivity is manually adjustable per UL 639 and UL 681 attack profiles.
An on-board accumulator allows the system to alarm after a set number of sub-threshold pulses. Specifically, the accumulator range is 0 to 9 pulses within a 10-minute window. As a result, low-level repeated attacks at 25% below the standard alarm threshold still trigger an alarm.
System scaling
The VSA-1K is the starting kit. Furthermore, coverage expands by adding additional VSM microphones. Specifically, up to eight (8) extra VSM units can be added. As a result, the system reaches a total of ten (10) microphones per VSA-1 controller. Also, the recommended layout is at least one VSA-1 or VSM in every 12-foot by 12-foot area.
Testing and balancing
The on-board test button and sounder allow manual functional verification. In addition, the included RTA Remote Test Annunciator allows remote testing without entering the vault. Furthermore, the optional self-test feature validates ongoing system performance through environmental change.
