The Macurco GD-2A is a residential and light-commercial combustible gas detector. Specifically, it senses methane (natural gas) or propane in living and office spaces. Therefore, it suits multi-family, single-family, and small commercial installations.
First, the GD-2A operates on 9–32 VDC or 12–24 VAC, so it ties cleanly into burglary or fire alarm panels. Then, it provides dry-contact alarm output for panel signaling. In addition, the unit can stand alone with its internal alarm.
Macurco GD-2A sensor and alarm behavior
The detector uses a 5-year solid-state sensor with end-of-life indication. As a result, replacement timing is predictable. Furthermore, the alarm setpoint is fixed at 25% of the Lower Explosive Limit, per UL 1484.
Verified specifications
- Detected gases: methane (CH4) or propane (C3H8)
- Power input: 9–32 VDC or 12–24 VAC
- Sensor: solid-state, 5-year service life with EOL indicator
- Alarm setpoint: 25% LEL (per UL 1484)
- Coverage area: 900 sq ft
- Operating temperature: 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 48.9°C)
- Listing: UL 2075
Installation notes
For methane, mount the GD-2A on the ceiling or near it. Alternatively, for propane, mount low on the wall close to the floor. Then, land power and the alarm relay at the panel. Finally, follow the GD-2A user manual for placement clearances from doors, vents, and HVAC supplies.
The GD-2B is the related 10-year-sensor variant for owners who prefer a longer service interval.
