The Edwards SA-232 is the RS-232 serial interface option card for the iO Series fire alarm panels. It mounts inside the iO64 or iO500 cabinet on the plastic assembly. Then it connects to the main circuit board with a ribbon cable.
What the Edwards SA-232 does
First, the SA-232 lets you connect a serial printer to the iO panel. As a result, system events print as they occur. In addition, the same port connects a laptop running the iO-CU configuration utility. Therefore, you can upload or download the panel program over a serial link.
Connection and wiring
The card uses three field wires: GND (black), TXD (white), and RXD (red). Furthermore, terminals accept 12 to 18 AWG wire (0.75 to 2.5 sq mm). For PC connections, the Edwards 260097 four-conductor DB9 cable is typically used.
Compatibility and environment
The SA-232 is intended for use with iO64 and iO500 intelligent life safety systems. Also, it shares the same operating range as the host panel: 32 to 120 °F and 0 to 93% RH non-condensing at 90 °F. Specifically, signaling follows the standard EIA-232 electrical specification.
Ordering notes
This is a replacement and field-add card; the iO Series panel ships without it. Order one SA-232 per panel that needs serial printing or PC connection. For Ethernet upload/download instead, see the companion SA-ETH option card.
