Edwards (965-1A-4RW) 4″ cone speaker(70vrms) , round-white

The Edwards 965-1A-4RW is a 4-inch round white ceiling speaker for 70 Vrms fire-alarm voice-communication audio circuits. Specifically, it is the speaker-only (no strobe) variant in the EST 965 Series. Furthermore, it broadcasts integrated emergency voice messages and alert or alarm tone signals in life-safety applications.

First, the speaker cone is 4-inch (102 mm) mylar with sealed-back construction. Then the steel baffle is finished with a baked white epoxy-polyester powder coat. As a result, the speaker is durable and delivers high-quality intelligible audio.

Field-Selectable Wattage Taps

Specifically, the 965-1A-4RW offers four wattage taps for on-site flexibility. Measured at 10 ft (3.05 m) in a reverberant room with band-limited pink noise per UL 1480:

• 1/4 W tap: 79 dBA
• 1 W tap: 82 dBA
• 2 W tap: 85 dBA
• 4 W tap: 88 dBA

Therefore, output can be tuned to room acoustics without swapping the speaker. Also, the tap is selected via a slide-on connector at the terminal block.

In addition, the recommended flush back box is the Edwards 960A-4RF. Alternatively, mount to a standard North American 4-inch square electrical box, 2-1/8 inches (54 mm) deep, with a 1-1/2 inch extension ring. Furthermore, baffle diameter is 7.35 in (187 mm), depth behind baffle is 3.625 in (92 mm), and ship weight is approximately 3 lb (1.3 kg).

What This Part Is

However, the 965-1A-4RW is a speaker-only device. Specifically, it does NOT include a strobe. Therefore, if you need a combined audible-and-visible appliance, see the 965-5A / -7A / -3A / -4A / -8A speaker-strobe variants instead.

Also, the 965 Series targets 70 Vrms audio circuits. As a result, do NOT wire it to a 25 Vrms circuit — for 25 V audio, use the 964-1A-4RW instead.
