The Edwards ACHS is an Audio Channel Selector card for the Kidde Vigilant VM Series life safety control system. First, it converts digital audio from an EAEC card into a supervised analog preamp output. Specifically, it provides one channel per card, with up to three cards supported per VM-1 panel.
Where the ACHS fits
This card is part of the Kidde-Edwards Vigilant VM Series voice/alarm platform. Therefore, high-rise commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, and educational campuses are typical installations. In addition, it pairs with the VM-PMI audio mounting bracket and EAEC (Emergency Audio Evacuation Controller). As a result, the building gets supervised multi-channel emergency audio distribution from a single panel node.
How the ACHS works
First, the EAEC card holds the digital audio sources for the panel. Then, the ACHS converts the selected digital channel to an analog preamp signal. Also, the preamp output is supervised, so a wiring fault to the downstream amplifier raises a trouble. In addition, each ACHS routes one channel — so panels needing multi-channel routing add multiple cards.
Verified specifications
- Channels per card: 1
- Output: supervised analog preamp
- Maximum cards per VM-1 panel: 3
- Source feed: EAEC (Emergency Audio Evacuation Controller) digital audio
- Mounting: VM-PMI audio mounting bracket
- Platform: Kidde Vigilant VM Series life safety control system
What this card is not
Critically, the ACHS is a Kidde Vigilant VM Series component — not an Edwards EST3 audio system part. Therefore, it does not install in EST3 chassis and does not replace 3-ASU or 3-ZA20 EST3 audio cards. Also, an ACHS without an EAEC and VM-PMI bracket cannot function on its own.
