The Edwards SIGA-UM Universal Class A/B Module is a Signature Series field-configurable input/output module. First, the loop controller downloads a “personality code” to the module. Then the module behaves as one of 15 different I/O types.
Importantly, the SIGA-UM is not a smoke detector. It also is not a notification appliance. Instead, it bridges between the Signature SLC and conventional Class A or Class B field circuits.
What the 15 personality codes do
- Dual Class B initiating device circuits (IDCs).
- Single Class A IDC.
- Form “C” control relay output.
- Class A or Class B NAC (notification appliance circuit) output.
- Class A or Class B interface for 2-wire conventional smoke detectors.
As a result, one part number covers most retrofit and upgrade scenarios. Therefore, contractors often stock the SIGA-UM for jobs where the field circuit type is unknown until install day.
Loop and addressing
- Uses two module addresses (Circuits A and B are independently addressable).
- LEDs: green polled, red active.
Operating currents (selected personality codes)
- Class B IDC: 396 µA standby / 680 µA alarm, 47kΩ EOL.
- Form “C” relay: 100 µA standby / 100 µA active; contacts rated 2 A @ 24 VDC, 0.5 A @ 120 VAC.
- Class A IDC: 223 µA standby / 365 µA alarm, 47kΩ EOL.
- 2-wire smoke: 2 mA standby, 17 mA first alarm, 100 µA subsequent alarms, 15kΩ EOL.
- Class A/B NAC: 223 µA standby / 365 µA active; max 2 A @ 24 VDC, 0.5 A @ 120 VAC, 50 W @ 25 V audio, 35 W @ 70 V audio.
Compatible 2-wire smokes (for codes 13, 14, 20, 21)
- System Sensor 1451 (ion) or 2451 (photo) on B401 base — max 10 each.
- Edwards 6250B ion on 6251B-001A base — max 20.
- Edwards 6270B photo on 6251B-001A base — max 15.
- Edwards EC30U photo on CSBU-1 base — max 16.

Panel compatibility and listings
The SIGA-UM works with Edwards Signature Loop Controllers in EST3, EST3X, iO Series, and EST4 families. Furthermore, the module is UL, ULC, MEA, and CSFM listed for fire alarm service.
