The Fire-Lite WFD25EXP is a 2.5-inch vane-type waterflow detector with an explosion-proof housing. Specifically, it monitors wet-pipe sprinkler systems in hazardous-location installations. As a result, it provides waterflow signaling where standard waterflow switches cannot be used.
In addition, the WFD25EXP fits 2.5-inch pipe in schedules 10 through 40.
How the WFD25EXP Detects Waterflow
A flexible vane extends into the sprinkler-pipe water column. Then, when water flows in the supervised direction, the vane deflects. Therefore, the internal switch contacts transfer to signal the alarm.
Furthermore, the unit has a field-adjustable time delay. Specifically, this prevents transient pressure surges from triggering nuisance alarms.
Explosion-Proof Hazardous-Location Rating
The WFD25EXP is listed for installation in hazardous classified locations. Specifically, that includes Class I, Division 1 and 2, Groups B, C, D. In addition, it is listed for Class II, Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F, G. Also, it covers Class III, Division 1 and 2.
As a result, the WFD25EXP suits refineries, chemical plants, grain-handling facilities, paint booths, and similar environments.
Important Application Limits
The WFD25EXP is for wet-pipe systems only. However, it must NOT be used on dry-pipe, deluge, or preaction systems.
In addition, do NOT install the WFD25EXP on copper pipe. Specifically, the mounting-bolt clamping forces can collapse copper pipe. Therefore, this would prevent reliable detection.
