The Hochiki NS4-220 is a 4-inch conventional detector base for 2-wire fire alarm circuits. It runs on 24 VDC and ships with a built-in compatibility resistor.
First, the NS4-220 is an electronics-free base with a plastic tamper-lock lug. Then the integrated resistor signals device identity HB-3 to the panel. As a result, the panel recognizes the device on the initiating loop without external components.
How the Hochiki NS4-220 Operates
The NS4-220 mounts a compatible Hochiki conventional detector head. Specifically, the 4-inch base sits on a 3-inch octagonal electrical box. In addition, the tamper-lock lug secures the head against unauthorized removal.
Furthermore, listed end-of-line devices supervise the initiating circuit from the panel side. Therefore, panel diagnostics see open-circuit conditions and missing devices.

Also, the NS4-220 works with Hochiki conventional models SOC-24V, SOC-24VN, SLR-24V, SLV-24, SLV-24N, SLV-24V, SLR-835, SLR-24H, SLR-835H, and DCD-135/190. However, the NS6 series 6-inch equivalent is needed for 4-inch octagonal or square box mounting.
Color Options
In addition, bases are available in bone (standard off-white) and white. Specifically, the “W” suffix indicates the white variant. As a result, installers can match the base color to the detector head.
