The STI STI-9609 Steel Web Stopper is a flush-mount cage for smoke detectors. First, it protects ceiling-mount detectors from vandalism, ball impact, and accidental damage. In addition, the open wire pattern keeps the detector sensing chamber exposed to room air. Therefore, smoke entry is not impeded.
STI STI-9609 construction
First, the cage is built from 9-gauge corrosion-resistant polyester-coated steel wire. Specifically, the high-profile flush-mount unit measures 8.25 in. H x 8.25 in. W x 4.6 in. D. As a result, it clears most large ceiling photoelectric or ionization heads. Also, the high-profile cage allows room for sounder bases and isolator bases.
Installation and use
First, mounting clamps and hardware ship with the cage. Then, the installer secures the frame to the ceiling around the detector. Next, the cage hinges into place. Finally, the cover locks closed. As a result, the protected detector remains fully serviceable without removing the cage.
