The Potter EOLR is a 5.1 kΩ end-of-line resistor assembly for fire alarm circuit supervision. Specifically, this is Potter stock number 3005013. Furthermore, the resistor supervises Class B initiating device circuits (IDC) and notification appliance circuits (NAC).
What the Potter EOLR does
Class B fire alarm circuits run two wires out from the panel to the last device. Then the EOL resistor closes the loop electrically at the far end. As a result, the panel can distinguish three states: normal, alarm short, and trouble open. Without an EOLR, the panel cannot detect a broken wire.
Specifically, the panel reads 5.1 kΩ resistance as a normal state. Then on alarm, the device shorts the line. As a result, the panel sees near-zero resistance. Furthermore, a broken wire drops resistance reading to infinity, triggering trouble.
Specifications
The resistor value is 5.1 kΩ at 5% tolerance. Also, the rated wattage is 1/2 W. Lead length is 6 inches with #18 AWG stranded copper. Furthermore, the leads are black-jacketed for typical fire alarm wire identification.
Where it installs
The EOLR mounts at the last device on each supervised circuit. As a result, every Class B IDC and NAC needs one EOLR. In addition, some Potter panels ship with a starter quantity but require additional EOLRs for expansion zones.
Compatibility note
The 5.1 kΩ value matches most Potter conventional FACPs. However, panel-specific EOL values vary by manufacturer and model. Therefore, verify the host panel’s EOL spec before ordering. For example, a 4.7 kΩ or 10 kΩ panel will not accept a 5.1 kΩ EOLR.
