The Edwards SIGA-OSD is an intelligent addressable optical smoke detector in the Signature Optica Series. Specifically, it uses multi-criteria optical sensing to reduce nuisance alarms while preserving response to real smoke. As a result, it is well-suited to commercial spaces where dust, steam, or kitchen aerosols would trip a basic photoelectric sensor.
In addition, the SIGA-OSD communicates on the Edwards Signature loop. Therefore, the panel reports individual device status, sensitivity, and alarm history per detector.
How the Edwards SIGA-OSD Detects Smoke
First, the sensor uses two optical wavelengths instead of one. Then, it analyzes scattering at multiple detection angles. As a result, it distinguishes between real smoke particles and common nuisance sources such as dust or steam.
Furthermore, the SIGA-OSD includes five sensitivity settings. In addition, day and night sensitivity profiles allow the same detector to behave differently after hours. Also, a pre-alarm threshold provides early warning before the full alarm trips.
Self-Monitoring and Drift Compensation
Specifically, the SIGA-OSD continuously monitors its own performance. Therefore, the panel is notified if the sensor degrades or drifts out of specification. Also, automatic drift compensation adjusts sensitivity for environmental conditions over the device’s life.
