The Potter CR-135 2C is a combination rate-of-rise and fixed-temperature heat detector with dual normally-closed circuits. First, the fixed-temperature element trips at 135°F. In addition, the rate-of-rise element trips at any 15°F-per-minute temperature increase.
The ROR portion is restorable after the temperature drops. However, the fixed-temperature fusible link is non-restorable and the head must be replaced after activation. Therefore, plan to keep spares on hand for high-risk locations.
Potter CR-135 2C specifications and mounting
Specifically, the unit measures 5.25″ × 2″ and weighs 0.41 lb. Contact ratings are 3 A at 125 VAC, 1 A at 28 VDC, and 0.3 A at 125 VDC. Also, the dual circuits suit two-loop or redundant supervision configurations.
The body is white plastic with a low-profile mounting ring that hides wall imperfections. Furthermore, the detector mounts to a standard 4″ octagon back box. Wiring runs 18 AWG minimum, with each circuit broken at the terminal for proper supervision.
Installation and testing
The CR series carries a maximum spacing of 70′ on smooth ceilings per the data sheet. Then field testing applies controlled heat from a UL-listed hair dryer 8-12″ away. In addition, the ROR portion will respond within 6-10 seconds before restoring.
Do not use a heat gun or open flame for testing, as either can fuse the head permanently. Also, portable UL-listed test units are acceptable substitutes. The detector ships with a 5-year warranty under listing UL S2406 and CSFM 7270-1110:0100.
