The Edwards SIGA-HRS is a Signature Series intelligent addressable heat detector. Specifically, it combines a 135°F fixed-temperature element with a rate-of-rise sensing element. As a result, the detector responds to either a sudden temperature rise or a sustained high temperature.
Status: The SIGA-HRS has been discontinued by Edwards. Furthermore, it is replaced by the Edwards SIGA-HRD intelligent heat detector. Therefore, for new installations or stock replenishment, please consider the SIGA-HRD as the current-production equivalent.
How the Edwards SIGA-HRS Detects Heat
First, the detector continuously samples the ambient temperature at its sensing element. In addition, the panel evaluates both the absolute temperature and the rate of change. As a result, an alarm reports when either condition crosses its threshold.
Furthermore, the SIGA-HRS communicates over the Edwards Signature data circuit (SDC). Therefore, the panel can poll the device individually for status, sensitivity, and alarm history.
Where Heat Detectors Make Sense
Specifically, heat detectors are best suited to environments where smoke detectors would generate false alarms. Examples include:
- Mechanical rooms with dust and fumes
- Kitchens and back-of-house service areas
- Parking garages and loading docks
- Attics, electrical rooms, and similar spaces
However, heat detectors respond more slowly than smoke detectors to most fires. Therefore, they should be used only where smoke sensing is impractical.
Specifications

Compatible Panels
The SIGA-HRS was originally specified for Edwards Signature-loop panels. Examples include:
- Edwards EST3
- Edwards QuickStart
- Edwards iO64 / iO500 / iO1000
However, before ordering, please confirm the SIGA-HRS works with your specific panel firmware. Newer panels may require the current-production SIGA-HRD instead.
