The Edwards MN-FVPN is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) encoder/decoder module from the Edwards MN Series. First, it transports supervised digital audio across an Ethernet network using TCP/IP. As a result, distributed EST3 buildings can share a common audio source without dedicated audio risers.
This module belongs to the Edwards EST3 audio ecosystem. Therefore, it is NOT a generic addressable fire alarm panel networking card. Specifically, it interfaces with the 3-ASU/4 and 3-ASU/FT audio source units.
Edwards MN-FVPN operating modes
The MN-FVPN runs in one of two roles. First, in encoder mode, the module takes audio signals from a Central Control Station (CCS) and transmits them over Ethernet. Then, in decoder mode, the module receives the digital audio stream from the Ethernet pathway and feeds it into the local 3-ASU/4, 3-ASU/FT, or other local audio system. As a result, the same audio source can drive amplifiers at remote sites without analog audio cabling between buildings.
Network topology
The Edwards VoIP system supports both one-to-one (single encoder feeding a single decoder) and one-to-many (one encoder feeding multiple decoders) configurations. In addition, the system provides end-to-end supervision of the entire audio path. Therefore, faults anywhere on the chain register as a supervisory event at the host panel.
Verified specifications
- Function: VoIP encoder / decoder for supervised digital audio transport

- 3-CAB or 3-RCC enclosure
- APS6A or APS10A auxiliary power supply with MN-BRKT3F bracket
What this module is not
The MN-FVPN is purpose-built for Edwards EST3 audio. As a result, it is not interoperable with non-Edwards SIP networks, generic VoIP phone systems, or addressable fire alarm panels outside the EST3 platform. Therefore, do not order this module for iO Series, FireShield, or non-Edwards panels. For Edwards networking on other platforms, consult the platform-specific datasheet.
Typical application
Multi-building campuses with one central audio source can use the MN-FVPN to extend supervised voice messages over an existing Ethernet infrastructure. As a result, the install avoids dedicated audio risers between buildings. Furthermore, the supervision capability ensures any path fault triggers an alarm condition at the host panel.
