The Notifier FRM-1 is an intelligent addressable relay module for Notifier addressable fire alarm systems. Specifically, it provides two Form-C dry contacts that switch together on command from the panel. As a result, it can control auxiliary equipment such as door holders, fans, dampers, and 4-wire smoke detector reset circuits.
In addition, the FRM-1 is powered directly from the two-wire SLC loop. Therefore, no separate 24 VDC auxiliary supply is required for the module itself.
How the Notifier FRM-1 Works
First, the panel addresses the module on its SLC. Then, on command, both Form-C contacts switch simultaneously. As a result, two independent loads can be controlled from a single panel point.
Furthermore, the FRM-1 includes a built-in device-type identification. Therefore, the panel automatically recognizes it during the SLC enrollment process.
In addition, the integral LED blinks green during normal polling. However, when the relay activates, the LED latches red until the panel resets the module.
Dual-Protocol Operation
The FRM-1 operates on Notifier FlashScan or CLIP SLC loops. Specifically, addressing is done via two rotary switches for direct-dial entry:
- FlashScan mode: addresses 01–159
- CLIP mode: addresses 01–99
Therefore, the same module ships work in both new FlashScan installations and legacy CLIP-only systems. However, the panel determines which mode is in use, not the module.
