The Kidde GSA-SD is the SuperDuct intelligent duct smoke detector for the Signature Series. Specifically, it samples HVAC ductwork airflow and reports through the Signature loop. As a result, the detector provides early warning of smoke in supply or return ducts and a relay output for HVAC shutdown.
Furthermore, the GSA-SD uses a Signature photoelectric sensor with the standard analog-to-digital signal chain. Then, the loop controller applies digital filters and historical comparisons to confirm an alarm.
How the Kidde GSA-SD SuperDuct Detector Works
An air sampling tube (ordered separately) extends into the duct. As a result, pressure differential pulls a continuous air sample into the sensing chamber. In addition, the exhaust tube returns the sampled air to the duct on the downstream side.
Also, the housing is less than 2 inches deep. Therefore, it installs cleanly in tight mechanical spaces around the air handler.
However, duct detectors are not a substitute for open-area smoke detection. They monitor the HVAC airstream only.
