The Protectowire PIM-120 is a single-zone mini-interface module for Protectowire linear heat detection. Specifically, the module bridges a host FACP detection circuit to a PHSC linear heat detector run. Furthermore, the PIM-120 monitors up to 2,000 m (6,560 ft) of detector. Specifically, the run uses a Class B (Style B) initiation circuit.
What the Protectowire PIM-120 does
The PIM-120 watches the Protectowire loop for an alarm short. Then on alarm, it transfers Form C contacts to the host panel. In addition, a separate Form C trouble contact reports loop opens. Therefore, any FACP that accepts dry-contact zone inputs can monitor a PHSC run through the PIM-120.
Power and outputs
Each PIM-120 needs regulated 24 VDC external power from the host control panel. Specifically, the module draws 20 mA standby and 40 mA in alarm. Furthermore, the alarm and trouble Form C (SPDT) contacts are rated 1 A at 30 VDC. Onboard surge and EMI protection is power-limited.
LEDs and reset behavior
The PIM-120 carries three LEDs. Specifically, red is alarm, yellow is trouble, and green is power. The alarm circuit is non-latching by default. Furthermore, the host panel’s zone holds alarm memory until reset. Optional MJ3 jumper enables latching mode at the PIM-120.
Mounting and dimensions
The PIM-120 ships with a snap-lock track for easy mounting. As a result, it drops inside the FACP cabinet or any standard electrical box. Furthermore, mounting dimensions measure 3″ W × 2″ H × 1″ D (7.6 × 5.0 × 2.5 cm).
Intrinsic safety option
The PIM-120 supports a shunt diode barrier for hazardous areas. Specifically, the barrier limits voltage and current for Class I, II, III Division 1 Groups A–G. Maximum Protectowire length in IS mode drops to 1,829 m (6,000 ft). In addition, only PHSC detector or non-energy-storing contact devices may share the IS circuit.
Operating envelope and 2-wire smoke note
Operating temperature is 0–49°C (32–120°F). Furthermore, humidity tolerance is 95% non-condensing. The PIM-120 is NOT compatible with 2-wire smoke detectors. Therefore, it accepts only Protectowire or normally open non-resistive contact devices.
