The Edwards SIGA-REL is an intelligent addressable Releasing Module for Signature Series fire alarm systems. It controls deluge sprinkler, preaction sprinkler, and automatic fire-extinguishing systems. As a result, the SIGA-REL releases water, foam, CO2, Halon, clean agent, or other suppression agents on command.
Edwards SIGA-REL — what it controls
First, the SIGA-REL provides two supervised release circuits for solenoid-controlled release valves. In addition, it provides two supervised prerelease circuits — one for audible appliances, one for visual appliances. Furthermore, the module includes one supervised manual release input, one supervised abort input, and one zone relay output (Form C contact). The two release circuits operate in unison and cannot be controlled separately.
Compatible panels
EST2, EST3, and QuickStart fire alarm control panels. The SIGA-REL must be installed in an enclosure dedicated to the releasing system — no other devices may be in the enclosure. Approved enclosures: 2-WB series, 3-RCC series, 3-CAB series, MFC-A, RACCR series. In addition, maintain 1 in (25.4 mm) minimum clearance around the SIGA-REL per NFPA 70 NEC.
Power and electrical
Power riser input voltage: 18.4 to 27.4 VDC, power-limited. Supervisory current: 25 mA max. Alarm current: 190 mA min, 4 A max (depends on output loading). Furthermore, release circuits TB4-1/2 and TB4-3/4 are rated 2 A at 24 VDC max with 47K end-of-line resistor. Prerelease circuits TB5-1/2 and TB5-3/4 are rated 2 A at 24 VDC max with 47K EOL. Each release circuit supports a maximum of 4 release valves.
Required accessories
RELA-EOL solenoid control relays are REQUIRED to buffer the SIGA-REL from valve solenoid spikes. For manual release: 276A-REL Manual Release Station or 278A-REL Double Action Manual Release Station (FM approved). For abort: RELA-ABT Manual Abort Station (FM approved). In addition, for service disconnect: RELA-SRV-1 Service Disconnect Switch (FM approved, normally closed, minimum 2.0 A).
Compatible power supplies
2-PPS / 2-PPS/220, 2-PPS/6A / 2-PPS/6A-220, 3-BPS/M / 3-BPS/M-230, 3-PPS/M / 3-PPS/M-230. Also BPS6A / BPS6A/230 and BPS10A / BPS10A/230 — however, these BPS supplies are NOT compatible with FM sprinkler applications that require 90 hours of standby. The SIGA-REL is NOT compatible with the QuickStart PS6 Power Supply Card.
NFPA standards by suppression agent
NFPA 11 (low-expansion foam), NFPA 11A (medium- and high-expansion foam), NFPA 12 (CO2), NFPA 12A (Halon 1301), NFPA 13 (sprinklers), NFPA 15 (water spray), NFPA 16 (foam-water), NFPA 17 (dry chemicals), NFPA 2001 (clean agent). For NFPA 12A and NFPA 2001 agents, a separate mechanical manual release is required in addition to the SIGA-REL release station. Furthermore, the SIGA-REL is NOT designed to generate an NFPA 72 evacuation signal and does NOT meet UL 864 evacuation NAC requirements.
