The Simplex 2081-9028 is an Isolated Loop Circuit Protector (ILCP). It guards Simplex fire alarm circuits against electrical transients. Specifically, it absorbs surges from lightning and power-line disturbances on wiring that runs outside the building.
Cross-reference number 0740645 identifies this protector. Furthermore, it suits any circuit exposed to outdoor wire runs. As a result, it helps keep critical life-safety signals reliable.
Simplex 2081-9028 Protection Ratings
The ILCP protects most Simplex low-voltage circuits. For example, it covers DC notification appliance circuits and 25 Vrms speaker NACs. However, it does not protect AC input power, RS-232, or video signals.
The device carries a 5 amp continuous current rating. In addition, its line-to-line and line-to-ground ratings are 38 VDC and 28 VAC. The 2081-9028 is listed to UL 497B for fire alarm circuit protectors.
Installation Guidelines
First, install the protector in a dedicated metallic box. Then, place it close to where the circuit enters or leaves the building. Also, keep input and output cables at least two inches apart.
Ground the unit with #12 AWG wire to the building grounding electrode. Furthermore, use twisted, shielded pairs on protected external wiring. Therefore, the system meets UL 497B listing requirements.
