The Altronix SMP3 is a compact power supply and battery charger board. It converts a low-voltage AC input into a 6VDC, 12VDC, or 24VDC selectable output.
First, an external Altronix plug-in transformer feeds 16VAC to 28VAC into the board. Then the SMP3 regulates that to 6, 12, or 24VDC at 2.5A continuous. As a result, the unit drives access control, security, and CCTV accessories that need clean low-voltage DC.
In addition, the SMP3 includes an integrated sealed lead acid / gel battery charger. Therefore, on AC loss the unit transfers to standby battery instantly with no drop on the output.

Intended Applications — Access, Security, and CCTV
Per the Altronix data sheet, the SMP3 is intended for access control, security, and CCTV system accessories. Therefore, it is well suited as auxiliary DC for door strikes, maglocks, sirens, sensors, and small camera installs. However, the SMP3 data sheet does not list UL 864, UL 294, or NFPA 72 agency approvals. As a result, it should not be used as a fire alarm or NAC power source. For those, choose a series with the matching agency listing (for example FireSwitch108 for UL 864 NAC).
