The Edwards G4VRF is a Genesis LED G4 Series wall-mount strobe in a red housing with FIRE marking. First, it provides high-intensity LED visual notification for fire alarm hearing-impaired applications. As a result, the LED design draws far less current than equivalent Xenon strobes — meaning more devices per NAC circuit.
The Edwards G4VRF is strobe-only. Specifically, it does NOT include a horn. Therefore, pair it with a separate G4 horn (G4ARF) for combined audible-visual notification, or use a G4AVRF horn-strobe in a single appliance.
Verified Strobe Specifications
The strobe is field-selectable at 15, 30, 75, or 110 cd. Specifically, these are DISCRETE settings — not a continuous range. Then current draw is 28 mA at 16-33 VDC (36 mA on VFWR), flat across all cd settings. Furthermore, the LED design holds current constant when you change the cd setting — a major advantage over Xenon strobes for system planning.
Operating Voltage
Operating voltage is 16 to 33 VDC filtered or 16 to 33 VFWR unfiltered. As a result, the G4VRF works on a wide range of NAC circuit topologies. Also, the strobe flashes at approximately one flash per second.
Listings
The strobe carries UL 1971 listing for indoor wall-mounted hearing-impaired notification. Furthermore, prevailing codes require strobes where ambient noise exceeds 105 dBA (87 dBA in Canada) and in areas of public accommodation per the ADA. However, ceiling-mount strobes use the EGCVRF (different model) — the G4VRF is wall-mount only.
Synchronization
For multi-strobe installations, sync sources include Edwards CC Series Signal Modules, booster and auxiliary power supplies, and intelligent or conventional control panels. Then strobes hold UL 1971 sync tolerance (within 10 ms over two hours). Also, LED G4 strobes may be mixed on the same circuit as legacy Xenon strobes.
Mounting Requirements
The G4VRF requires the GP10 room side wiring plate, ordered SEPARATELY in 10-packs. Then the appliance snaps onto the pre-wired plate at final mounting. Compatible boxes are 1-gang, 2-gang, 3.5-inch octagon, and 4-inch square. Dimensions are 4.95 inches wide by 5.78 inches high by 1.62 inches deep. For oversized openings, add an optional G4TR (red) or G4TW (white) trim plate.
Diagnostics
An under-cover diagnostic test port allows voltage measurement during commissioning. Furthermore, the GP10 wiring plate includes a continuity check bar for pre-wire verification before the appliance is installed. As a result, wiring faults surface before the device is snapped in.
