The Edwards 965-5A-4RW is a 4-inch round white 70 Vrms ceiling speaker-strobe with a 15 cd strobe, designed for fire-alarm voice-communication systems. Specifically, it combines an 8-ohm cone speaker with a 24 Vdc xenon strobe in a single appliance. Furthermore, it is part of the Edwards EST 965 Series Enhanced Integrity product line.

First, the speaker cone is 4-inch (102 mm) mylar with sealed-back construction. Then the 24 Vdc strobe synchronizes at one flash per second. As a result, this single device delivers integrated emergency voice communication plus visible notification for the hearing impaired.

Therefore, use the 16 Vdc value for battery AH calculations and the 16 Vfwr value for unfiltered-power-supply calculations. In addition, Edwards recommends using the typical current for NAC and power-supply loading.

Furthermore, the 965-5A-4RW exceeds UL 1971 sync requirements (within 10 ms over a two-hour period) when used with an external sync source. Specifically, compatible sync modules include:

However, the -5A strobe is rated for WALL MOUNT ONLY under UL 1971 at 15 cd. Specifically, there is no UL 1971 ceiling rating. Therefore, for ceiling-mount strobe applications, use the -7A (15/75 cd wall or ceiling) or higher candela variants in the 965 family.

Also, the 965 Series targets 70 Vrms audio. As a result, for 25 Vrms audio, use the 964-5A-4RW instead.
