The Edwards EBPS6A is a 6.5 amp Remote Booster Power Supply for fire alarm Notification Appliance Circuits. First, it expands the NAC capacity of an existing fire alarm control panel. As a result, you can power more horns, strobes, and speakers from a single system.
Edwards EBPS6A architecture
The unit ships with four independent Class B NACs that convert to two Class A circuits via jumper. Each circuit handles up to 3.0 A. In addition, the four NACs share a 6.5 A total budget. Furthermore, NACs 1 through 4 can be reconfigured as auxiliary 24 Vdc outputs. Also, a dedicated 200 mA auxiliary output is included for accessory power.
Signal coordination and synchronization
The EBPS6A generates three signal rates internally. First, continuous tone for steady horns. Then, the 3-3-3 temporal pattern required by NFPA 72 for fire evacuation. Alternatively, the booster can follow the host panel’s NAC signal rate. As a result, it provides Genesis strobe and horn synchronization without a separate sync module.
Verified specifications
- AC input: 120 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 250 W
- NAC output: 3.0 A max per circuit, 6.5 A total across all NACs at 24 V DC nominal
- NAC wiring: Class A or Class B (jumper-configurable)
- Auxiliary output: 200 mA dedicated, plus optional NAC-as-AUX conversion
- Sensing input: 3 mA at 12 V DC / 6 mA at 24 V DC (from existing NAC)
- Trouble relay: 2 A at 30 V DC, with 16-second AC-fail delay
- Battery compartment: up to 10 Ah in cabinet (2 x 12V10A); 24 Ah max with external box
- Wire gauge: 18 to 12 AWG terminals
- Operating environment: 32 to 120 F (0 to 49 C), 0 to 93% RH non-condensing
- Cabinet: 17″ x 13″ x 3.5″ wall-mount steel, 3/4″ knockouts
Status indication and supervision
Seven on-board LEDs report system health. Specifically, one LED per NAC, plus battery, ground fault, and AC power indicators. As a result, troubleshooting is fast without test gear. Furthermore, fault conditions detected by the EBPS open the host panel’s NAC for centralized annunciation.
