The Fire-Lite FM998 is a flush wall-mount electromagnetic door holder for fire and smoke barrier doors. Specifically, it holds the door open until a remote smoke detector or switching device cuts power. As a result, the door swings closed automatically during an alarm. In addition, the FM998 supports three voltages out of the box: 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, and 120 VAC.
Fire-Lite FM998 operation
The complete assembly uses two parts. First, a heavy-duty electromagnet mounts in the wall behind the door. Then an armature contact plate mounts on the door with an adjustable pivot. When energized, the magnet holds the door open against a separate closing device. However, any power loss releases the door immediately. Furthermore, a positive release button can initiate closing on demand.
Installation notes
The FM998 uses concealed wiring through a 2″ x 4″ x 1-3/4″ outlet box. Also, the wall must be reinforced and the box adequately fastened. Position the magnet about 6 inches in from the lock stile. In addition, the wall magnet should sit 2 to 4 feet above the floor. Maximum wire size is 14 AWG.
