Altronix (PD8) Power distribution unit

The Altronix PD8 is a power distribution module that splits a single AC or DC input into eight individually fused outputs. Specifically, it is the unlisted, low-cost workhorse used to fan out a low-voltage bus to eight accessories such as cameras, card readers, or door strikes.

First, the PD8 accepts up to 28VAC or 28VDC at up to 12 A from an upstream power supply. Then, eight on-board fuses split that bus into eight 2.5 A protected outputs. In addition, each output is independently fused, so a single shorted device does not take down the others. As a result, integrators get inexpensive per-output isolation in a 5.25″ by 3.25″ board.

Listing Note — Not a UL-Listed Sub-Assembly

However, the PD8 is the non-UL variant of this distribution family. Specifically, the PD8 datasheet shows no UL agency listings. Therefore, if a project requires a UL-listed power-distribution sub-assembly, specify the PD8UL (fused, UL 294 + UL 603 + UL 1481) or PD8ULCB (PTC, same listings) instead. Furthermore, do not install the PD8 inside a UL 864 fire-alarm control unit; doing so may invalidate the host listing.
