The Siemens PAD-3R NAC extender is a distributed power supply for commercial fire alarm systems. It adds notification power where a control panel alone cannot reach. Specifically, this red-enclosure unit provides up to 6 amps at 24 VDC. As a result, it drives more horns, strobes, and horn-strobes across a building.
The PAD-3R feeds four notification appliance circuits (NACs). Each NAC is power-limited and rated at 3 amps. In addition, the unit can be wired as two Class A or four Class B circuits. Either one or two inputs can control the four outputs.
Siemens PAD-3R NAC extender power and supervision
All outputs work with Siemens 24 VDC notification appliances. Furthermore, installers can program outputs for steady, ANSI Temporal 3, or synchronized strobe operation. The unit also offers 3 amps of auxiliary power for devices such as door holders. However, total draw cannot exceed 6 amps.
The PAD-3R supervises low AC power, battery voltage, and ground faults. In addition, a Form C dry contact reports trouble conditions. The on-board charger supports batteries up to 15 AH, and the enclosure houses up to 7 AH.
Listings and applications
The PAD-3R is UL 864 9th Edition Listed and ULC S527-11 Listed. It is also FM, CSFM, and NYC Fire Department approved, plus ADA compliant. Typical uses include offices, schools, hospitals, and industrial expansions or retrofits.
