The Simplex 4098-9603 ionization smoke detector (catalog number 677120) uses a dual-chamber ionization sensing design for conventional fire alarm initiating device circuits (IDCs). The outer ionization chamber samples ambient air; the inner chamber serves as a reference to compensate for environmental fluctuations in temperature and humidity. The detector mounts in a separate base—ordered independently—which provides either 2-wire or 4-wire circuit wiring. The 4098-9603 head weighs 0.25 lbs and fits a 4-inch round electrical box. A built-in magnetic test feature allows service technicians to initiate a test alarm without disassembly.
Three base options are available: the 4098-9788 2-wire base with remote LED indicator connections; the 4098-9683 2-wire base with auxiliary relay and remote LED connections; and the 4098-9682 4-wire base with auxiliary relay and remote LED connections. Optional remote alarm LED indicators provide visible status at remote locations.
